When I Started
When I started it was called multimedia, then came new media, some call it web2.0, these days it is all ‘digital’, but the underlying principals remain the same.
IADT (2003-2007)
I began my online career in 2003 studying what was then called Multimedia, in the Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology. I graduated in 2007 after completing a 3 year BSc in Multimedia Systems Programming and a final year, finishing with a BSc (Hons) in Computing in Multimedia Programming.
Graphic Ireland (2004-2007)
Graphic Ireland was my first freelance company set up in early 2004, with a Graphic Designer from IADT Niall Staines. We developed small websites mostly in flash and the company operated all the way through college, until we were both hired as a pair and decided to pursue our own careers.
vStream (2007-2008)
I started as a founding member of vStream, who at that time were a small start-up based in the Digital Hub with an ambition to bring digital video to the Irish Market. I was hired as an Online Developer and this was my first venture into Ad Land, albeit as a supplier. vStream grew and expanded and began to partner with Ad agencies to further expand their reach.
I worked on some great projects during my time with vStream, including vStream’s own site, The Lisbon Treaty 2007, Jameson 360 Global Party and vStream’s own Web TV platform. A great first job and one which taught me a lot. vStream are currently based on Leeson Street and are one of Ireland’s leading video solutions providers, specialising in high end online video merged with targeted advertising strategy.
Rothco (2009-2010)
Rothco was my first in house Agency role and I was hired again as an Online Developer, with specific emphasis on Search Engine optimisation. The agency had a very specific goal; Award Winning Digital Work.
I had the opportunity to work on some excellent brands and projects, including a drinks brand launch for Carnaby Brown and a host of online advertising creative and execution for top brands such as Aviva, Diageo and O2.
Thirteen (2009-2010)
Thirteen’s offering was quite unique. The company was setup within Rothco to offer services of a large Agency to SMEs. Thirteen specialise in cost effective marketing and printing solutions for SMEs and continue to operate as part of the Rothco Group.
Within Thirteen, my role was to manage all things digital. I acted as designer, developer and client service, a role which I loved. It provided me with the opportunity to get out in front of clients and advise on digital strategy, then get back to the office and actually create the projects. At a time when global recession had business looking to maximise their budgets, I got the chance to work with some great SMEs and advise new and existing business on their digital presence.
Ground 4D (2010-2011)
Ground 4D are Part of the Young Euro RSCG Group and are based in Dublin. Specialising in integrated brand communications and experiential marketing, Ground are some of the best in the business, scooping up no less than 9 APMC (Association of Promotional Marketing Consultants) awards in 2011, including 3 gold Gold & Category Winners.
I was hired on a freelance basis as a Digital Strategists and Project Manager. During my time with Ground I worked on some great campaigns for Heineken Ireland, Coors, Nestlé Ireland and for a variety of Danone brands. I was also responsible for all digital pitch material and the outsourcing of Web Development and Design for Digital projects.
